Nutrition during pregnancy

When you are pregnant, you have an increased need for nutrients. Therefore, it is important to eat healthily and variedly to meet these needs. Additionally, it is important to take folic acid and vitamin D supplements.

Eating for two during pregnancy is not necessary. The body does need a little more energy for the baby’s development, but activity levels are also lower towards the end of pregnancy. Therefore, the total energy requirement is not much higher than normal. Gaining too much weight during pregnancy also increases the risk of having a heavier baby, who in turn has an increased risk of overweight later in life.
